A moving voyage back to the Great Plague of 1720, through a collection of over a thousand manuscripts - most never-before-seen -, including letters, testimonies, paintings, ex-votos, engravings, etc. "La Peste" explores the epidemic that decimated half of Provence's population in 1720 before spreading throughout Europe. Delving into quarantine, border walls and special authorizations, the exhibition's parallels with the events of 2020-2021 are surprising to say the least! This year, the museum will be focusing on the latter years of the outbreak (1721-23).
The "Caravage en Provence" exhibition, including Peiresc's collection of works by Caravaggio, is scheduled again in 2021 by popular demand.
This two-prong exhibition, also featuring the incredible collections of Hotel d'Agar – a genuine cabinet of curiosities – is definitely one of summer's must-do cultural outings.
